History of the Emergence of the Planetary Path

 

9/7/1994

The Politics Workgroup from the Carl Strehl School wanted to touch on the theme of “communal politics” in the school year of 1994/1995. After the Workgroup Leader, Hans Junker, introduced the idea to build a Planetary Learning Path in Marburg, adapted for the blind, to the students, the students spontaneously approved the suggestion. Concurrently, the academic theme of communal politics became integrally intertwined with “Project Planetary Learning Path”. The students Lars Bosselmann, Zelco Crncic, Markus Greiser, Uwe Hanewald, André Reggentin, Helge Tross, and Sebastian Veith belong to the Politics Workgroup.

9/21/1994

 The placement of the Planetary Path is determined by Marburg´s Office for City Planning.

10/5/1994

Marburg’s Mayor Möller pledges the organizational and financial support of the city to the workgroup for realization of the project.

11/9/1994

County Council Member, Professor Dr. Kliem, affirms that the project will be supported by Marburg-Biedenkopf county.

11/25/1994

 

 

 

Viewing of the Planetary Learning Path in Hude. The picture of the bronze tablets in the form of half spheres decided as the optimal solution for the blind visitors. The “Makers” of the Hude Learning Path, the teacher Dr. Alffs and Langetepe allow us, to use their construction method to mount the bronze tablets. The Planetary Learning Path in Hude thus becomes the model for Marburg’s Planetary Learning Path.

12/1/1994

The Craftsman Apprenticeship Center in Marburg proclaim their readiness to provide and construct the model sun, columns for the planet stations, and foundations for all objects of the Learning Path completely free of charge.

1/11/1995

Surveying of the station’s placement sites with architect Uwe Lippstock.

1/30/1999

The construction plans for the Planetary Learning Path is submitted to the Construction Office in Marburg. Discussion with sponsors begins.

5/10/1995

The Planetary Learning Path receives its own logo, designed by Michael
M. Weitzel as seen on the Starting Page.

6/12/1995

At the Politics Workshop’s press conference with County Council Member Dr.Kliem and Mayor Möller, the project is made public.

8/23/1995

The foundations for the individual stations are poured.

8/31/1995

The model of the sun and the planet columns are set and mounted by students of the Marburg Apprenticeship Center under the instruction of Mr. Heide.

9/6/1995

Rincker Art and Bell Foundry deliver the bronze tablets for the Learning Path.

9/12/1995

Mr. Wick, the leader of the Craftsman Apprenticeship Center and Mr. Heine mount the bronze tablets in the stations’ concrete cassettes.

9/15/1995

Christening of the Planetary Learning Path with County Councel Member Dr.Kliem, Mayor Möller, and all Planetary Learning Path sponsors. Hessian TV (Hessenschau) along with regional and extra regional media, radio stations and daily newspapers, report about it.

12/19/1995

Brochures for the Learning Path are published by the City of Marburg.

1/16/1996

The Rhiel Firm of Roßdorf puts showcases on the sun and Pluto stations.

9/17/1996

The Astronomic Community honors the project with the first Hans-Ludwig Neumann Prize for Support of Scholastic Astronomy Teachings.

4/6/2001

Jürgen Hertlein, Director of the German Institute for Blind Studies (Deutschen Blindenstudienanstalt), presents the City of Marburg with a newly constructed showcase directly next to the Neptune Station.
